CHILIADOU

One of the many villages of the plain of Mornos is Chiliadou. The fertile land on which it was founded and the waters of the Corinthian Gulf that water it, give Chiliadou a special character. This small village is surrounded by vast farmland and sits on the edge of the plain, next to the sea. At the entrance of the village one finds low two-storey houses with tiled roofs, spread on either side of the main ‘snake’ road that leads to the coastal zone.

To the west, there is the fishing shelter for the fishing boats and boats of the locals and its square, surrounded by the three family taverns of the village. There one can enjoy local fish and seafood , as well as various other delicious local dishes. At the edge of the harbour, stands the small, picturesque church of Panagia Chiliadiotissa. You will meet there every day and the local amateur fishermen, who do not miss the opportunity to spend the afternoon in the sea.
To the east now, the sandy, shallow beach of Chiliadous, 2km long, stretches out, which bustles with life during the three months of summer. In this place, in the last decade, there has been an emerging tourist development and infrastructure, attracting visitors from various parts of Greece and abroad.

Chiliadou also has a plethora of beach bars and cafes for all tastes , offered to satisfy the needs of the visitor and the holidaymaker. In various parts of the beach , there is also ample space for those who prefer to set up their own umbrella and spread their towels on the sand. It is mainly preferred by families, because the waters are quite shallow, children enjoy free play on the sand for hours and rental services are also provided for water bicycles, sea canoes and s.u.p.

tip : It is calm and we choose it for swimming, especially when the wind is westerly, i.e. when it has what we call ”maistro” !

parathalasso

Parathalasso beach is located right next to the beach of Chiliadous. They are separated by the imposing cape called “Kokkinovrachos” or “Kokkinos” and is located to the west of the picturesque village of Monastiraki. It is a crystal clear beach , with pale pebbles and relatively deep, crystal clear waters .No matter how far you swim from the shore , you can still see the seabed because of its crystal clear waters.

Parathalassos is also an attraction of particular natural beauty, because its beach is a narrow strip of pebbled land that separates the thallasa from the “blue lake” , in fact a pond thallasa, next to the rocky peninsula of “Kokkinos”. The beach is about a kilometre long. On one side, to the west, there are two organized beach bars, well known in the area, while to the east there is a lot of space where you can set up your umbrella or enjoy the natural shade of the tamarisk trees, almost next to the sea.

According to some scholars , from a historical point of view , near this cape , the ancient city of “Erythres” is located and in the wider sea area , ruins of a sunken city of antiquity have been identified.

tip : Even with a strong westerly wind, the beach is protected by the cape and is relatively calm!

plaz geropikoula

The most beautiful village in Dorida, with its own “blue lake”, next to the waters of the Corinthian Sea. Almost next to Managouli and Chiliadou and close enough to Nafpaktos, it remains a peaceful destination , a place that is very popular, both in summer , and the rest of the year.
It enjoys excellent views of the Corinthian Gulf and the opposite coast of the Peloponnese. It has not been explored by many , although in the summers it has a lot of excursionist traffic. You can walk along its cobbled streets, visit the parish church of Evangelistos Markos in the centre of the village and discover to the east of the settlement, small bays for swimming , if you follow the “Corinthian” road ! It also has its own beach, known to the locals as “plaz Geropikoula” .
Monastiraki is a village of Fokida built amphitheatrically, with many traditional stone houses, very beautiful neighborhoods and famous, quality fish taverns by the sea, where you can enjoy the local fish and sea food of the area. It also has a small pier, where the fishermen of the village tie up their few boats and their boats. Next to the boats, you can enjoy your morning coffee or a local dessert.

The village combines the sea and the mountain, since a part of it rises to an altitude of 15 meters, at the wooded foothills of the Koumaros hill. According to the 2011 census, 280 permanent residents live there, but in the summers the population appears to be significantly increased, as apart from holidaymakers, several people have chosen to build their holiday homes in Monastiraki.

The name Monastiraki, seems to go back to a small monastery that was located there during the late Byzantine years. The present village, however, is much younger: it started as an informal settlement of fishermen from the neighbouring village of Klimakia, only to be officially founded in 1907. During the 1930s it flourished as a commercial link between the mountainous Nafpaktia and the Dorida coast, with a daily ferry service to Psathopyrgos, just outside Patras.

tip: At Geropikoula beach, the waters are calm when the wind is easterly, or “Levantes”!

skaloma

The beach at Skaloma is one of the most popular in Fokida and is located quite close to the western border of the prefecture with Etoloakarnania. The small picturesque bay has a pebbly beach with crystal clear, deep and deep blue waters, while at one end of the beach, tall plane trees offer their shade to the bathers. The thallas is absolutely calm when the wind is from the east.

The multitude of visitors who prefer Skaloma, enjoy swimming in the deep waters of the beach, with stunning views of the green nature of the area.

Right next to the beach, visitors have the opportunity to drink their coffee, ouzo and snack on snacks at the taverns and cafes , which offer their delicacies and their care generously.

The stone alley above the coast is ideal for afternoon walks, in the peace and quiet of the landscape .

tip : If you find yourself in Skaloma, do not miss to visit the small, picturesque chapel located on the hill, in order to enjoy the beautiful, panoramic view of the beach and the Corinthian Gulf.

marathias

The beach of Marathia in Fokida, is the coast in front of the picturesque fishing village, right next to Skaloma. Hundreds of visitors flood it in the summers, as it is one of the resorts preferred for their holidays by the residents of the surrounding mountain villages of Fokida and not only.

Marathias, located between the two streams that flow into the area and ‘define’ the village, is very much like an island, with the water element being strong and dominant. The sea is crystal clear and deep blue and on the pebbled beach, there are some cafes, restaurants and fish taverns, but also several free spaces for those who choose to set up their own umbrella.

Green trees, mainly fruit trees, such as orange, lemon, olive and even palm trees, adorn the landscape around the beach of Marathias, while further back the imposing mountains of Fokida can be seen, giving a special tone to the scenery.

Mulberry trees and plane trees offer their shade to rest in the hot afternoons, if you choose to leave the beach for a while and enjoy the walk in the small fishing village, among the many visitors who come not only from Greece but also from abroad.

tip : Look for , a stone’s throw away, the hidden beach called “Fokiotrypa”!

beach of Sergoulas

The beach of Sergoula, the beautiful historical village of Fokida, is 2 km long and is located near Marathia. Small taverns, cafes and tourist businesses serve the visitors, making the escape to the beach of Sergoula ideal for those who are looking for a beautiful place to swim, relax and unwind.

There are essentially two coasts that make up the beach of Sergoula. These are Abelaki beach, which is the largest beach, and Platania beach, which is essentially an extension of the first one. The entire beach is pebbled, while on the beach of Sergoula you will see the plane trees standing tall up to the sea and literally being washed by the waves in some cases!

In the beach of Sergoula, which is one of the most popular tourist resorts not only in Fokida but also in the whole of Central Greece, you will find crowds of people in the summers and tourism from abroad, as it is preferred by many who combine their stay with a visit to Delphi and other archaeological sites in the area.

The crystal clear turquoise waters , are its greatest advantage, making visitors become… a fanatic fan once they swim in its cool sea! Prefer it when the wind is easterly. Also, very close to it, you can also see the only inhabited island of the Corinthian Gulf, Trizonia.

tip : In recent years, a unique musical event with great artists is organized in the Park of Agia Marina, at the beach of Sergoula. The famous “Radical Music Festival” which takes place in August and its exact dates are announced every year, well in advance!

glyfada

Glyfada or Glyfa , is built next to the sea, at the foot of a historic hill, with an important ancient acropolis. The beach of Glyfada is pebbled and has crystal clear waters, reflecting the green nature and taking on shades of green!

The beach of Glyfada, which is located right in front of the settlement, can be reached easily and quickly from the village centre, where you will find everything you need in the small shops that serve visitors. Besides, you can’t visit the beach and not take a stroll through the streets of the picturesque village.

Gazing at the sea from the beach, your eye will fall on the only inhabited island of the Corinthian Sea, Trizonia , but also the other small islands of the complex. Trizonia is just a few minutes from the beach of Glyfada by ferry, which takes visitors non-stop. There, in the small settlement there are no cars and walking , you will find shores to swim and which will offer you the reverse view, that is to the beach of Glyfada and the mountainous beauty of Fokida!

trizonia

The island of Trizonia, a small island with an area of only 2.5 square kilometres, where wheeled vehicles are forbidden and the joy of contact with nature overwhelms you from the first step you take, stepping off the small boat that carried you.

The island is tiny, yet it has at least 3 accessible beaches.

The first beach can be found near the Marina of Trisonies. The beach of the island starts after the last taverna and is the one for which you don’t need to take supplies with you, since everything is around you within walking distance.

Pounda beach or Red Beach (because of the colour of its pebbles) is located in the south-eastern part of the island (2 km from the port). You can reach it through a path that starts from the dirt road around the harbour of the island. On the island there are also the necessary signs to make sure you are following the right path. The beach is small and has a cedar tree that creates natural shade.

Unorganized is also the beach Aspra Chalikia, which again gets its name from the color of its pebbles. It is located in the western part of the island and is also accessed by a path that starts from the natural harbour of the island.

The waters at any beach of Trisonies, no matter which beach you choose to swim in, are crystal clear and cool.

agios spyridon

The beach is located in the homonymous settlement of the municipality of Doris.

The small pebbles of the beach allow walking and mild water games in and out of the water. The long length of the beach (about one kilometre) allows safe sailing along the shore for beginners who want to try their canoeing or SUP skills.

For those who are past the beginner stage and want to seek something more extreme across the beach at a distance of about 1.5 km, the Prasoudi islet awaits them.

Finally, for those who are lovers of marine exploration (without special requirements), the seabed is mild but has some interesting rocky spots.

There are all the necessary facilities for food and coffee and space for the car.
