Nafpaktia and Dorida is a place blessed by nature. The fertile plains, the valleys, the pastures, the orchards, the olive groves give the inhabitants and the visitors the rich goods of nature. This is also the basis of the gastronomic tradition of the place, which will satisfy even the most demanding palates!

Starting with fresh fish or, if you prefer, with delicious traditional recipes of local meats, accompanied with savory and sweet pies, good wine or local tsipouro, the visitor has many choices. Throughout the city and in the surrounding areas there are dozens of ouzeri, taverns, restaurants and cafes that adequately cover every choice. Don’t hesitate to try spoon sweets with the traditional walnut topping.

MOUNTAIN HERBS

On the verdant slopes of the area grow herbs with many beneficial properties for the human body. The best known in the area are mountain tea, which is the most popular, chamomile and thyme.

LIVESTOCK AND HUNTING

The pastoral tradition of the area is unchanged and rich over the years and is celebrated with festivals in various mountain villages of the Municipality. Roast lamb, kokoretsi, kontosouvli, kosmari, the famous sausages, etc., are preferred by residents and visitors alike. For the more demanding, you will find fine delicacies from hunting.

AROMATIC PLANTS

A characteristic product of the region is the aromatic plants that thrive in Nafpaktia and Dorida. Oregano, rosemary, thyme and meadowsweet are just a few of them. Flavour your food and use them for therapeutic purposes!

OLIVES AND OIL

Nafpaktia and Dorida are known for the production of olives since the old times. In the wonderful olive groves of the region, 2 types of olives are cultivated.

Chestnuts, mushrooms, honey and other products, have their honor all year round in Mountain Nafpaktia and Mountain Dorida. Throughout the year, the locals honour the products of their land with festivals dedicated to them.

In Ano Chora and Agios Dimitrios Platanos in mid-October, chestnut and tsipouro festivals are organised where tsipouro is distilled, chestnuts are roasted and visitors are offered local delicacies such as pies and goat stew, as well as sweets.

DAIRY - CHEESE PRODUCTS

If you love dairy products get ready to taste some of the most delicious ones! In Nafpaktos you will find delicious cheeses, such as feta, graviera, kefalograviera, kefalotyri, soft cheese chalafuti or katiki, as well as yoghurt and excellent quality butter.

HONEY - ROYAL JELLY - HONEYCOMB

The fir-clad slopes of mountainous Nafpaktia and mountainous Dorida are the ideal environment for one of the best and most expensive categories of honey, fir honey. The area also produces and sells excellent royal jelly, a miraculous food, and delicious honeycomb.

DUTIES

Two characteristic and favourite products of the region are trachanas and noodles. Both are prepared in the traditional way and will elevate your recipes!

SEAFOODS

The unique Corinthian Gulf is famous, among other things, for its delicious and excellent quality squid and squid, as well as for its excellent fish. Cephalos, sea bass, sea bream, sea bream, sargos, and many other fish you will find fresh, but don’t hesitate to try them salted!

CHESTNUT

On the green slopes of the area there are scattered chestnut trees that offer their precious fruit to its inhabitants. Chestnut trees have been systematically cultivated for centuries, while wild chestnut trees are hidden among the fir trees that dominate the hillsides. Their velvety fruits are cooked in a variety of ways and are a traditional dish of the region.

TSIPOURO

The region is also famous for its tsipouro. Distilled, aromatic and strong, the tsipouro of Nafpaktos is an ideal accompaniment to appetizers and highlights the local gastronomy.

SPOON SWEETS & JAMS

From the fruits and nuts that grow abundantly in the region, housewives and cooperatives make unique spoon sweets and jams that delight those who taste them. One of the most famous is the sweet walnut.

MALAGASY WINE

The famous aromatic variety thrives in the region. It comes from Spain, specifically from the Malaga region, from which it takes its name. The climatic conditions of the region favoured its development, it has acclimatised perfectly and has produced a wine of excellent quality, with a yellowish-white colour and a particularly fruity aroma.
